Celebrate Easter with Joy
In the heart of Neuss, a significant project nears completion - the Quirinusstraße construction measure. This ambitious undertaking, which was completed about three months earlier than planned, has created an outstanding connection between the city center, the Quirinus Münster, and the harbor.
The project, which began with the construction of a new residential and commercial building on the site of the former Münster school, has also resulted in a redesign of both the Quirinusstraße and a section of Münsterplatz street. The new Damenstift-Platz now stands as a testament to this transformation.
The return of a monument to its original place at the Quirinus Basilica is another notable development in Neuss. The monument, dedicated to Josef Cardinal Frings, has found its home once more. Born in Neuss on February 6, 1887, Cardinal Frings was a native of the city who would later receive honorary citizenship from both Cologne and Neuss in 1967. He was the only archbishop to whom Cologne awarded this honour.
Cardinal Frings' bravery during the difficult years after the war earned him these prestigious citizenships. He stood up for the population, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to his community. His monument's return to its original place serves as a reminder of his significant contributions to Neuss.
This year, the Easter celebration is different due to the internal threat posed by the pandemic. Despite the restrictions and distancing, it is possible to reflect faith in the community during Easter. However, those who love each other are forbidden to be close during this Easter, a situation that feels almost inhuman.
The newsletter provides in-depth information about social developments, culinary arts, art and culture in Neuss, offering a glimpse into the city's vibrant community spirit. This year, it serves as a beacon of hope, providing a means for community reflection and connection amidst the challenges of the pandemic.
Mayor Reiner Breuer expressed pride in creating a new, urban space with a high level of public space with the Damenstiftplatz. This new space, along with the return of Cardinal Frings' monument, marks a new chapter in Neuss's history, one that promises to be as resilient and vibrant as the city itself.
