Celebrations occurring amidst ruptures: Scientists rush to investigate earthquake damage in Segamat's farmland

In Segamat, Malaysia, on August 31, a preliminary investigation was conducted on a farm located on Jalan Buloh Kasap, Batu 2. The investigation, led by the Johor Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG), aimed to understand the potential impact of future earthquakes, following the latest reported incident on farm owner Ramlah Ishak's property.

The investigation team, which included researchers from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Dr. Lee Chee Kiew and his team from Universiti Putra Malaysia, spent over an hour at the site carrying out related work. They employed ABEM Terrameter LS 2 equipment, a resistivity system for assessing underground structures, during the investigation.

Ramlah, who has been affected by five earthquake incidents, including the latest one yesterday, expressed relief that the state government and the research team addressed her concerns. She urged relevant agencies to take further action and assess the situation due to concerns about the cracks worsening in another earthquake.

Bernama, a news agency, witnessed the investigation and reported cracks appearing on Ramlah's farm, believed to be caused by recent mild earthquakes in Segamat. The investigation team's findings regarding the cause of the cracks on Ramlah's farm are pending.

The recent earthquakes in Segamat started at 6.13 am on Aug 24, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale. This was followed by 8.59 am on Wednesday (3.2), 7.56 pm on Thursday (2.5), 4.24 am on Friday (3.4), and 7.29 am yesterday (2.7).

Ramlah expressed confidence in the expertise of the team investigating the cause of the cracks on her farm. The relevant parties will first analyze the initial findings before drawing any conclusions. Bernama continues to report on the earthquakes and their impact in Segamat, Malaysia.
