Celebrating a Century of Life: Chana Treu's Extraordinary Journey

Chana Treu, a remarkable woman with an incredible story, recently celebrated her 104th birthday in Haifa, Israel. Born in Düsseldorf in 1921, Treu's life took an unexpected turn when she fled to Haifa in 1938, leaving her family behind as the threat from the National Socialists grew.

Treu's father, a foresighted man, organised their escape to Palestine, a move that would save Chana's life. Her mother, father, and brother managed to emigrate later in 1939 and 1940, but Chana had already fled to Haifa.

In her youth, Chana lived in the Kreuzviertel and later near the train station in Münster, a city she remembers with much love. Her past experiences are not a barrier to her affection for Münster; rather, they add a unique depth to her connection with the city.

Mayor Markus Lewe, of Münster, expressed great joy about Chana Treu's fond memories of the city. This week, he sent a special congratulatory letter to Chana, acknowledging her significant milestone and her lasting bond with Münster.

Despite the eventful past that led to her departure from Münster, Chana has visited the city several times over the past decades. Her connection to Münster has not been severed, and her story serves as a poignant reminder of the city's history and the lives it has touched.

As Chana Treu celebrates her 104th birthday, her resilience and spirit serve as an inspiration to all. The image shows her celebrating in Israel, a testament to her long and remarkable life.
