Monheim Fire Department Celebrates 100 Years of Service

The Monheim Fire Department, a vital part of local life in Gladbach, is gearing up for its centenary celebration on September 6th and 7th. Established on February 26, 1925, the fire department has a rich history of service, resilience, and community involvement.

The fire department's roots can be traced back to 1925, when 21 brave citizens signed up to become the first members. The first equipment house was built next to the bakery Hillenbrand, marking the beginning of a long and distinguished service.

Over the years, the Monheim Fire Department has grown and evolved. In 1954, a new building was added to the gym, and in 1998, the current equipment house was inaugurated. The department's "flagship," a TLF 16/25, was brought to Monheim in 2014.

The Monheim Fire Department has been on the scene during some of the region's most significant events, such as the large fires in Neuwied city center in 2024 and the rescue efforts during the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley in 2021. They have also responded to severe accidents on the "Alteck" and have been involved in joint exercises with neighboring fire brigades to further strengthen their capabilities.

The department's commitment to the community is evident in their participation in local festivals, events, and daily interactions. They are not just first responders, but an integral part of the fabric of Gladbach life.

The centenary celebration will be a memorable event, featuring an official ceremony, a blue light party, a family day around the equipment house, and various performances by emergency services and THW. There will also be activities for young visitors, making it a day for all ages to enjoy.

The anniversary celebration will take place in the gymnasium and around the equipment house. The event fills the leadership with pride and gratitude, showcasing the power of trust, cooperation, and commitment that has sustained the fire department for a century.

One of the highlights of the celebration will be the presence of search and rescue dog "Lotti," who is part of a statewide special unit for missing person searches and rubble clearance.

The Monheim Fire Department invites all citizens to join in the celebrations and to celebrate the dedication, bravery, and service of the men and women who have served the community for the past 100 years. It's a chance to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future of this vital community institution.
