Central Customs Office in Braunschweig: Solemn Pledge Upon Entry

The Main Customs Office in Braunschweig is witnessing a significant shift, as 28 new recruits prepare to take up their roles, marking a generational change in the customs service.

Senior Government Councillor Kerstin Müller, the permanent representative of the Main Customs Office management, welcomed the new colleagues, emphasising the importance of this change. She highlighted that the old guard is retiring, and the young are stepping up to take the reins.

Of the new recruits, 7 trainees will embark on dual studies for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the higher customs service, while 21 trainees will commence their journey to become finance officers in the middle customs service. These trainees are set to start their roles on September 1, 2025.

The new recruits were given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the departments and interest groups of the Main Customs Office. This included enforcement, inspection service, financial control of undeclared work, and penalties. An outdoor program was also organised, where customs dog Berta showcased her skills.

The practical phases of the training will be spent in various areas of the training customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate. For the dual studies in the higher service, the trainees will complete their education at the Federal Administration Academy in Münster, while the training for the middle service will be completed at the training centers of the Federal Finance Administration in Erfurt, Leipzig, Plessow near Pune, Rostock, or Sigmaringen.
