Asian gallery directors confront obstacles, Armory Show vows to challenge stereotypes, and more: Morning news tidbits for September 3, 2025

In the realm of art, there's always something new and intriguing to discover. This month, several exciting events are taking place around the globe, from the debut of tech bro avatars to the expansion of The Armory Show and Frieze Seoul.

Japanese British artist Hiromi Ozaki has created six AI-generated "tech bros" that will make their debut at the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria. These avatars, designed to embody the stereotypical tech bro, will later be showcased in a three-month exhibition at The Art Gallery at Brooklyn College in New York. The project, which originally stemmed from Ozaki's skepticism about technology and AI, feels even more urgent now as tech elites shape the public conversation and perhaps the future itself. The tech bro avatars' voices and facial models are reimagined as white men, echoing billionaire figures like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

The tech bro avatars discuss a range of topics, from the decline of democracy to the future of labor, with a chilling detachment. This thought-provoking exhibition is sure to spark conversations about the role of technology in shaping our future.

Meanwhile, The Armory Show is expanding its horizons this year with a focus on the American South. The "Focus" section of the show, curated by Kyla McMillan, is devoted to Southern artists and galleries. In addition, The Armory Show is collaborating with other institutions in the region to foster a vibrant art scene.

This year, The Armory Show's "Focus" section will coincide with Jessica Bell Brown curating the "Focus" section of The Armory Show. Brown is curating a section dedicated to Southern artists and galleries.

Across the globe, Frieze Seoul is not only an important cultural event in Seoul but across Asia. Running from September 3 to 6, Frieze Seoul fosters collaboration between local institutions in Seoul. Patrick Lee, the director of Frieze Seoul, is at the helm of this major art event in the region's scene.

Frieze Seoul coincides with South Korea's premier art fair, Kiaf. Late-night gallery openings across Euljiro, Hannam, Cheongdam, and Samcheong allow visitors to experience Seoul's cultural ecosystem.

In other news, digital art takes center stage in 13 publications on the subject, with artists blending disciplines, challenging norms, and utilizing emerging technologies to express complex ideas.

Elsewhere, the UK's first dedicated space for Somali heritage has built its collection from 15 years of donations.

Lastly, Delhi's Raj-era Central Secretariat will be transformed into the "world's largest museum" showcasing 5,000 years of heritage.

Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting art events and many more!
