The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Championship Weekend is currently underway, and the host team, the Winnipeg Sea Bears, are ready to make a splash.

Jason Smith, the president of the Winnipeg Sea Bears, expressed his excitement about showcasing their team and fans to the rest of Canada. "We're thrilled to be hosting the championship weekend," he said. "It's a great opportunity for our city and our fans to show their support for the Sea Bears."

The CEBL commissioner, Mike Morreale, shared Smith's enthusiasm, stating that the event is expected to be the biggest and best in the league's history. Morreale expects close, exciting games during the championship weekend due to the parity in the league.

The Sea Bears' first game is against the Calgary Surge on Friday night. The Calgary Surge is an outstanding team and should be respected, according to Mike Taylor, the head coach of the Winnipeg Sea Bears. Taylor expressed confidence in their team, having beaten every team in the league, including Calgary.

Emmanuel Akot, a Sea Bears forward, believes that taking care of the ball, defending, and playing with aggression will be key to their success.

Besides the Winnipeg Sea Bears, four other teams are participating in the championship. The top four teams in the CEBL, including the Sea Bears as the host team, are competing for the title.

The games are taking place on Graham Street, which will also be filled with entertainment, music, food trucks, a market, and more. Approximately 400 to 500 visitors are expected for the event, according to Jason Smith. The event is expected to bring in a significant amount of tourism, with hotels in the area seeing approximately 900 room nights booked as a result.

Loren Remillard, the president and CEO of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, mentioned that the CEBL championship weekend is one of many significant events Winnipeg is hosting this year. "We're proud to be hosting such a prestigious event," Remillard said. "It's a great opportunity to showcase our city to the rest of Canada."

Morreale also emphasised the importance of the event, stating, "The CEBL Championship Weekend is not just about basketball. It's about bringing people together, celebrating our sport, and showcasing the best of Winnipeg."

The Winnipeg Sea Bears are ready for the challenge, and fans are eagerly anticipating the team's first game against the Calgary Surge. With the excitement surrounding the event and the parity in the league, the CEBL Championship Weekend is sure to be a thrilling spectacle.
