Chamusca's ex-mayor, Sérgio Carrinho, passes away at 76 years old.

In the heart of Portugal, the municipality of Chamusca faced a significant challenge on August 2, 2003, as a devastating fire swept through its territory. During this critical time, Sérgio Carrinho, the President of the Chamusca Municipal Chamber, immediately coordinated the response efforts.

Born on January 18, 1949, in Pinheiro Grande, Sérgio Carrinho dedicated over three decades of his life to the service of Chamusca. He began his political career in 1976, when he was elected councilor, and ascended to the presidency of the Municipal Chamber in 1979.

Throughout his tenure, Sérgio Carrinho made significant strides in modernising the region. He expanded the water supply network, improved the road network, and promoted the electrification of the entire territory. His efforts did not stop at infrastructure; he also constructed educational, cultural, sports, and health facilities, creating new parishes and fostering a sense of community.

In recognition of his service, Paulo Jorge Queimado, the current President of the Chamusca Municipal Chamber, has decreed two days of municipal mourning on September 1 and 2. During this period, the flag of the municipality will fly at half-mast in all municipal buildings.

Sérgio Carrinho started his professional life at the SPALIL tomato factory and served in the military in Guinea in 1971. However, his political career was his primary focus, and he held the position of president of the Municipal Chamber of Chamusca uninterruptedly until 2013.

It is worth noting that no further information about Sérgio Carrinho's involvement in other political positions or additional associations during his long tenure as president of the municipality of Chamusca could be found.

The fire on August 2, 2003, deeply affected the territory of Chamusca, but under Sérgio Carrinho's leadership, the municipality rebuilt and thrived. His passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill, and his legacy will continue to shape Chamusca for years to come.
