Chevy's Estimated Range for the Equinox EV Might be Overstated, or They've Implemented Adequate Regenerative Braking to Boost It

In the ever-evolving electric vehicle (EV) landscape, the Chevrolet Equinox EV has made a significant impact, becoming the best-selling EV in the U.S. after Tesla. This compact SUV has been garnering praise from owners for its value, ride, user interface, and customer service experiences.

One such owner, Cypress Vincent Van Horn, compared the Equinox EV with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, expressing a clear preference for the Chevrolet model. Mara Neske, another owner, joined the chorus, comparing the Equinox EV and Tesla Model Y, acknowledging the latter's superior tech and charging parity but favouring the Equinox for its heavier ride.

The Equinox EV's cabin is familiar and user-friendly, with real buttons, a clear driver display, and an optional head-up display. Google built-in and an intuitive dashboard cover the essentials, and many owners report that they do not miss CarPlay or Android Auto.

Debra Calvo McNicholas, another Equinox EV owner, praises the car for its value, ride, safety features, and design. Many buyers find it to be the best car for the money due to incentives such as federal tax credit, Costco savings, dealer markdowns, and one pay leases.

However, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y have their own strengths. The Mach-E appeals to some shoppers with its appealing personality, styling, and driving feel, while the Tesla Model Y offers high performance, longer range (up to 445 km in the Long Range version), and access to the largest high-speed charging network.

Comfort features vary with each model's design and amenities. Households that own all three vehicles find each to shine in its own way, with the Equinox feeling heavier and more comfortable, and the Model Y feeling quicker with better charging and tech.

Price, range, and comfort are the key factors influencing the decision between the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Tesla Model Y. Insurance prices also played a role, with many seeing meaningful savings with the Equinox and a few not seeing any savings, which is why shoppers compared quotes before signing.

Timing pressure, such as the September 30 tax credit deadline and reissued Costco eligibility windows, influenced some purchasing decisions. Dealer and service access also played a significant role in the decision-making process, with local Chevy stores and Honda service earning praise, while Tesla service drew mixed feedback.

In July 2022, the Equinox EV sales topped 8,500 units, the best single month ever for any non-Tesla EV in the U.S. As the EV market continues to grow, the Chevrolet Equinox EV is certainly a strong contender, offering a smooth, quiet, and substantial ride, making it a compelling choice for many shoppers.
