Chinese robot vacuum manufacturer Dreame enters the automobile industry, debuting its first electric vehicle aiming to compete with the Bugatti Veyron.
Dreame Enters the Automotive Industry with Ambitious Plans
Dreame Technology, a Chinese brand known for its range of robot vacuum cleaners and other home appliances, has made a bold move into the automotive industry. The company, headquartered in Suzhou, Jiangsu (a neighboring city to Shanghai), has been planning this move since 2013.
The first model from Dreame will be an ultra-luxury pure-electric vehicle, aiming to bring China-made products to the world's high-end markets. This inaugural model will establish an intelligent ecosystem distinct from traditional luxury vehicles, enabling seamless integration with users' smart homes and mobile devices.
The vehicle is positioned to rival the Bugatti Veyron and is scheduled for a 2027 debut, coinciding with Bugatti's plans to introduce an ultra-luxurious, fully electric car. The first Dreame model will feature an extended-range powertrain and deliver the ultimate driving experience, powered by its super motors.
Dreame attributes its ambition to its leadership in China's cleaning sector and its position as the market share leader in over 20 countries and regions. The company has assembled a nearly 1,000-person automotive team and continues to expand, having grown from a 200-person team as of October 2024.
The EV industry in China has seen significant changes in the past year or two, with consolidation occurring among new vehicle manufacturers. Despite this, Dreame remains optimistic, acknowledging the intense competition in China's automotive industry, where the focus is on technological innovation, iteration speed, and supply chain integration.
China NEV ownership reached 36.89 million as of recent data, with the BEV share declining slightly. As Dreame prepares to launch its first model, it plans to export it to Europe, following the success of its products which are currently sold in over 120 countries and regions worldwide.
This move by Dreame is reminiscent of a trend four to five years ago, where non-automotive players were entering the vehicle manufacturing arena as China's EV industry stood on the brink of takeoff. However, it's worth noting that several new vehicle manufacturers like HiPhi, Neta, and Jiyue have entered a state of substantive demise in the past year.
As Dreame enters the automotive industry, it brings with it a wealth of experience from its successful home appliances business, and an ambition to challenge the status quo in the luxury electric vehicle market.
