Chronology of the Emmanuel Haro case: From the mysterious disappearance of a 7-month-old to the suspected homicide revelations
In the quiet town of Cabazon, California, the community is gripped by a tragic mystery. On Aug. 14, Emmanuel Haro, a 7-month-old baby, was reported missing.
Emmanuel was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie, weighing 21 pounds, being approximately 24 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and cross-eyed.
Extensive searches have been conducted in the nearby towns of Yucaipa and Cabazon on Aug. 18, with officials deploying scent-tracking dogs on the scene but unable to locate Emmanuel. The investigation remains active, and officials are seeking the public's help in locating the child.
The alleged murder of Emmanuel was deemed preventable in numerous ways, according to officials, who believe that the child was severely abused over a period of time, and both parents, Rebecca and Jake Haro, would have been aware of that abuse.
On Aug. 14, Rebecca Haro reported being attacked outside a retail store on Yucaipa Boulevard. She told officials that while she stood outside her vehicle, changing the child's diaper, she was physically assaulted by an unknown male and rendered unconscious. When she woke up, Emmanuel was gone.
During interviews with investigators on Aug. 16, Rebecca Haro was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview. Jake Haro, according to authorities, has a history of child abuse, with a previous case in 2018 resulting in a child being left bedridden.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were arrested on Aug. 22 for the murder of their son, Emmanuel. A $1 million bail was set for both during their court appearance on Aug. 26. The arraignment for Jake and Rebecca Haro is scheduled to continue on Sept. 4.
Officials have a "pretty strong indication" on the location of Emmanuel's remains. The search for Emmanuel's remains is ongoing.
Rebecca and Jake Haro, the child's parents, spoke to Los Angeles ABC station KABC about Emmanuel's disappearance on Aug. 15. However, there are no public records or credible reports linking Jake Mitchell Haro to child abuse in California or indicating he received a probation sentence for such offenses.
The community hopes for a resolution in this heart-wrenching case and continues to keep Emmanuel and his family in their thoughts.
