Citizens of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky are urged to work on fixing the water drainage system situated around Kulty lake.

In an effort to maintain the sanitary and environmental integrity of Lake Kultuchnoye, the administration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the regional government have initiated a series of measures. The main goal is to prevent household waste from entering the lake's stormwater drainage system.

The municipal institution "Automobile Roads Service" prepared tender documents in March of the current year, inviting contractors to bid for the task. The selected contractor will be responsible for conducting technical inspections of properties and non-residential facilities in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The inspections aim to identify illegal connections and assess the condition of drainage systems within the Lake Kultuchnoye basin.

The contractor, yet to be selected, will also ensure that the stormwater drainage system complies with sanitary and environmental standards. The name of the chosen contractor will be determined on September 19, 2025.

Simultaneously, the design of the stormwater drainage system and treatment facilities for Lake Kultuchnoye in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is underway. This action is intended to avoid administrative penalties and further protect the lake from illegal waste disposal.

The initiative was sparked in autumn 2024 when the administration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky started identifying and eliminating illegal connections to the stormwater system leading to waste disposal into Lake Kultuchnoye. The data obtained from these inspections will be used by specialists to eliminate such "initiatives" and maintain the lake's health.

Individuals and legal entities with illegal connections and household waste disposal into the stormwater system are urged to contact specialized organisations for their removal and network reconnection in accordance with sanitary and environmental standards. The Kamchatka regional government and the administration of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city district are committed to ensuring the protection and preservation of Lake Kultuchnoye.
