In the heart of Munich lies the neighbourhood of Untergiesing-Harlaching, a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of local charm and natural beauty. One of the main attractions in this area is Mangfallplatz, a bustling farmers market where you can find Sonnenhof, a stall specialising in meat and sausage delicacies.

The Menterschwaige, another popular spot, is situated just a 10-minute walk from the Tierpark. The beer garden here offers a liter of beer for 8.90 euros and a large pretzel for 4.90 euros. The Menterschwaige is open from Monday to Thursday from 1 pm and Friday to Sunday, as well as public holidays, from 11:30 am.

The area truly shines in the summer, with the proximity to the Isar river adding to its allure. Places along the Isar, such as Flaucher, are particularly popular and offer a peaceful respite. Flaucher is a favourite spot for social evenings with grilled meat, and there's a beer garden next to it with wooden benches.

The Rose Garden on the Isar in Untergiesing is another must-visit. This fragrant area belongs to the Bischweiler nursery and includes a touch garden, a scent garden, and a poison garden. It's a peaceful and quiet spot, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

For those who prefer a more active outing, the shaded, winding path along the Hochleiten starts at the Sechziger Stadion and runs south. A less-traveled bike path can be found just before the climb at the Marienklause. The climb to the bike path at the Marienklause is challenging, even for e-bike riders due to small steps.

The weekly market at Hans-Mielich Platz in Untergiesing is held every Thursday from 12 to 6 pm. Here, you can find Sadak offering South Tyrolean delicacies, while the Helminger family sells fresh, regional fruit and vegetables. Tomatoes from the Helminger family are currently in season and taste wonderfully sweet and intense.

For those seeking a caffeine fix, Café Mangfall serves an espresso for 2.20 euros and a large cappuccino for 3.45 euros. Der Giesinger Garten, an inn located at Gerhardstraße 4, serves Bavarian specialties and is open daily from 10 am to midnight. Roast pork costs 14.50 euros and cheese spaetzle costs 15.90 euros here.

Strolling through the small streets of Untergiesing-Harlaching can feel like being on vacation. The neighbourhood is characterised by many trees, low houses, and small streets. A picturesque duck pond is located on the other side of the garden, home to swans, mandarin, and mallard ducks.

For those moving to Munich from the countryside, as I did, Untergiesing-Harlaching offers a welcoming and charming introduction to city life. The area's natural beauty, combined with its vibrant local community, makes it a truly special place to call home.
