City financially supports Productivity Efficiency Programme, saving numerous Cape Town employment positions
In a recent development, several Cape Town-based small businesses have been recognised for their productivity improvements following participation in the Productivity Efficiency Programme, a city-funded initiative aimed at helping SMMEs enhance their operations.
One of the businesses that received accolades is Lion Industries Construction Company, which participated in the programme alongside JBS Construction, led by Tinelle Pearce, Alderman James Vos, Dane Thompson, and Justin Thompson, and other teams including Keenan Carls, Gloria Josephs, Joulanda Mocke, Zoliwa Ndabakayise, Carmen Smit, Yolanda Mtungane, and Kezia Lippert.
The Productivity South Africa Milestone Workshop served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of these businesses. The programme, which has been operational for two and a half years, has supported 28 businesses and saved 776 jobs across various industries.
The programme requires participating SMMEs to employ between 15 and 100 staff members. Businesses are assessed and given a detailed strategy on how to refine productivity and efficiencies. Productivity South Africa's team reviews every aspect of the business and advises on improvements or changes.
JBS Construction, for instance, experienced an increase in throughput from 38% to 66%. Similarly, Mervyn Gers Ceramics, a Paarden Eiland-based manufacturer, saw an improvement in on-time deliveries from 51% to 68% after implementing the strategic plan provided by the programme.
Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, is involved in multiple teams participating in the programme, demonstrating his commitment to fostering growth within the city's small business sector. The city of Johannesburg also supports the programs of Productivity South Africa to help small and medium enterprises improve productivity and efficiency.
This initiative underscores the city's dedication to supporting local businesses and fostering a thriving economy. The success stories of businesses like Lion Industries Construction Company and Mervyn Gers Ceramics serve as testament to the programme's effectiveness and the potential for further growth and job creation in the future.
