In the heart of Dormagen, a city that values volunteering, a special event was held on August 31, 2025. The Volunteer Reception, organised by the city administration and the Stadtmarketing- und Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Dormagen mbH (SWD), brought together more than 500 volunteers at the Kulturhof Knechtsteden.

Mayor Erik Lierenfeld warmly welcomed the guests, expressing his gratitude for their commitment to the community. He highlighted the BrotZeit NRW project as an example of new volunteer initiatives, providing a free breakfast for children at three elementary schools daily.

The event was a celebration of community spirit, with a musical programme by Michael Singendonk and a special performance by Jürgen "Archie" Deneke, who channeled the spirit of Udo Lindenberg. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the presence of Bernd Gellrich from the Diakonie and Martin Voigt from Currenta.

Information booths at the reception offered opportunities for further volunteer involvement, providing a platform for attendees to learn about various community projects and find ways to contribute.

The event was not just about recognition, but also about fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among volunteers. Lierenfeld expressed his pleasure at the high number of volunteers attending the reception, emphasising the city's commitment to recognising and celebrating its volunteers.

A photo gallery of the event can be found at www.our website/photo gallery, offering a glimpse into the heartwarming moments of the Volunteer Reception. A large drone image of all guests and organisers was taken during the event, capturing the spirit of the day.

The Senior Lunch Tables have been expanded throughout the city, with ten districts now offering this service. As a token of appreciation, TSV Bayer Dormagen e.V. distributed free tickets for the next handball second division team's home game.

The Stadtbad- and Verkehrsgesellschaft (SVGD) supported the event, underscoring the city's collective effort in recognising and appreciating its volunteers. The Volunteer Reception was a testament to the power of community service and the spirit of volunteering in Dormagen.
