City of Neuss eases parental responsibilities

In a move aimed at supporting parents during these challenging times, the city council of Neuss has decided to waive parent contributions for childcare in kindergartens, daycare facilities, and the open extended day school in the primary area for the months of May to July. This decision comes as a relief for many parents who currently have limited access to childcare or offers of the open extended day school in the primary area.

However, parents should prepare for the possibility of having to pay these fees later, as the final decision on waiving these fees in Neuss will be made by the city council in a later meeting. The outcome of this meeting will depend on the state regulations and the decision of the Neuss city council, and it may be collected in full or in part retroactively.

The city of Neuss will not collect parent contributions for the same services from February to April 2021, following a similar decision made by all municipalities in NRW in January 2021. The costs were shared equally between the municipalities and the state, as the state of NRW has decided to continue with restricted regular operations for childcare until at least April 11, 2021.

The city council of Neuss regrets the uncertain situation and continues to advocate for parents. This waiver of fees is intended to help parents who are struggling to manage during these times when access to childcare and extended school care is limited.

As of now, the state government has not yet provided any information on the statewide handling of parent fees. Parents are advised to stay informed about any updates regarding this matter.
