City theater resumes operations following summer hiatus
The City Theatre is gearing up for an exciting new season, themed around the motto 'Tracks'. Starting from Friday, September 5, the summer stage on the theatre square will offer special outdoor theatre experiences under the open sky.
The season will launch on Wednesday, September 3, with a preview concert for the 1st Symphony Concert. General Music Director Andreas Schüller will lead the musical direction for the concert, featuring works by Jean-Baptiste Lully, Richard Strauss, and Amy Beach.
On Friday, September 5, the theatre invites audience members to bring their own blankets and picnic chairs for the outdoor events. These events are free and open to the public, with the possibility of coming and going, enjoying, singing along, and dancing.
City Theatre Intendant Simone Sterr opened the season with a speech emphasizing diversity in theatre forms. She encourages everyone to explore the various shows on offer.
The first premiere in the Great House is "Prince Friedrich of Homburg", scheduled for Saturday, September 13. The production is by Anaïs Durand-Mauptit, and Katharina Schmitt will direct the premiere.
The second premiere of the new season is "Gloria", scheduled for Saturday, September 20. This world premiere is produced by City Theatre Intendant Simone Sterr.
On Saturday, September 6, the opera choir of the Gießen City Theatre will perform at 7 pm, followed by Open Mic at 8:30 pm.
As for family-friendly events, on Sunday, September 7, a children's festival around the house will take place, featuring games, crafts, and surprises for the whole family from 3 pm to 6 pm.
For those interested in opera, on Sunday, September 7, at 7:30 pm, "New Tracks 25/26: The Season Preview" will present highlights from the upcoming season outdoors on the open-air summer stage.
