Nils Petersen, the renowned former football national player and record goal scorer of SC Freiburg, has embarked on a new chapter in his career, joining the second team of Sportfreunde Oberried in the Kreisliga B.

Petersen's debut match against the reserve team of FC Freiburg St. Georgen was a memorable one, with over 600 spectators witnessing his return to the pitch. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the scent of grilled sausages that greeted him upon arrival.

The longtime Bundesliga professional revealed in a podcast that he felt nervous before the early meeting time of 11:15 AM, a feeling reminiscent of the pre-game jitters he used to experience. However, his new teammates, who made occasional comments, helped to ease his start.

During the match, Petersen showcased his skills, setting up a goal and earning a penalty. Despite not scoring any goals himself, he seemed content after the match.

Petersen's focus in this new venture is on regular playing time rather than joking or fooling around. He has questioned various aspects of his Kreisliga adventure, such as meal times and the colour of training clothes, but did not mention any specific colour requirements.

The 2016 Olympic silver medalist has also revealed that the early meeting times allow him to have time left in the day to do other things, like watching football. He has also mentioned that he is open to interactions and potential competition from other small clubs, jokingly mentioning the "mean calls" he received from clubs in the region.

Petersen's comments suggest that he aims to avoid "fooling around" and play regularly. His debut match was a promising start to what promises to be an exciting journey in the Kreisliga B.
