Climber tragically perishes during ascent of Victory Peak in quest for coveted badge.
Mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsyna Takes On Dangerous Ascent in Kyrgyzstan
Russian mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsyna is once again attempting a perilous ascent in Kyrgyzstan, this time with the goal of earning the coveted "Snow Leopard" badge. The climber, who has been obsessed with this hike for a year, is currently stranded on Victory Peak, a notoriously challenging summit.
Nagovitsyna's previous attempt to ascend Victory Peak in 2024 was cancelled due to her group's insufficient preparation and the worsening health of the operation's leader. A rescue operation to evacuate her from the peak was also halted in August 2023 due to severe weather conditions.
As Nagovitsyna embarks on this latest attempt, she is doing so despite a recent injury and in the face of increasingly unfavourable weather conditions. Tomorrow's forecast predicts further deterioration with heavy snowfall, significantly increasing the risk of avalanches.
Climbing one of the most challenging peaks requires serious physical and technical preparation, as emphasized by an expert. Nagovitsyna's dream is to conquer the fifth seven-thousander, and her previous experience stranded on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan has only fueled her determination.
Friend Lia Popova reported this information to "Komsomolskaya Pravda", while the Kyrgyz MCHS press service reported the details to "Izvestia" newspaper. However, no new information about the status of Nagovitsyna's climb is currently available.
It is important to note that this article does not contain any information about the loss of Nagovitsyna's husband in the mountains. Our thoughts are with Nagovitsyna and her family during this challenging time. We will continue to bring you updates as more information becomes available.
