Closing Date Approaches for October's $20 Poker Competition in Las Vegas
Poker Palace Casino in North Las Vegas to Close Permanently
The Poker Palace casino, a long-standing establishment in North Las Vegas, will be closing its doors permanently on October 1, 20XX. This marks the second casino closure in the area, following the Silver Nugget's shutdown in 2023.
The Poker Palace, which has been operating since 1974, was the last poker room in North Las Vegas. Prior to its transformation into a casino, it served as a bar catering to the growing crowd of Nellis Air Force Base.
The casino had a unique charm, often described as having a "home game" vibe. Manager Timothy Shawi noted that many of the players have been the same for the past 30, 40, or 50 years. The Saturday night tournament was renowned for its good action and fun game atmosphere, while players were known to gather every Friday for extended play.
In an effort to attract more players, the Poker Palace expanded its daily poker tournament schedule to seven days a week prior to the World Series of Poker (WSOP). The $20 daily tournament, which originally ran for five days a week, was expanded to seven days, and a $30 bounty was added to the Sunday afternoon tournament.
The casino also offered other games, including bingo, blackjack, slots, and a restaurant. Recently, new TVs, felts, and poker chips were added to the seven-table poker room in preparation for the summer series.
Unfortunately, the closure of the Poker Palace will result in the loss of approximately 126 jobs, including ten dealers. As of now, there is no publicly available information about the companies or individuals involved in the sale of the casino.
The Poker Palace will continue to operate until the end of September, providing players with one last chance to experience its unique atmosphere before it fades into history.
