Coach intends to discuss Micah Parsons' on-field conduct during the preseason match with the Dallas Cowboys linebacker.

The Dallas Cowboys and star linebacker Micah Parsons find themselves in a complex situation, as the former Penn State standout has been absent from the preseason due to a contract dispute and has hinted at a desire for a trade.

The saga began when Parsons, drafted with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 draft, signed a four-year, $17.1 million contract and the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year, $24.007 million option for this season. However, it seems that Parsons is not satisfied with his current deal.

It is unclear when the Cowboys contacted Parsons' representative, David Mulugheta, about the matter. Some reports suggest it was soon after a meeting, while others indicate it was after Parsons publicly requested a trade. Regardless, negotiations have been ongoing, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stating that he has offered Parsons more money to play football than any other team.

The Cowboys could use the franchise tag to retain Parsons in 2026 and '27, but it remains to be seen if that will be necessary. Jones has also discussed a contract offer with Parsons that would have made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.

Parsons' actions during this period have not gone unnoticed. Coach Mike McCarthy met with Parsons to discuss his contract dispute and actions during the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, where Parsons was observed lying down on a training table behind the team bench. These actions, which went viral on social media, have stirred speculation that Parsons may sit out the season and forgo his huge pay raise for 2025.

However, Parsons has taken to social media to clarify his position, posting on Twitter that he never disrespects teammates. He also shared a TikTok video containing photos of himself in a Cowboys uniform, appearing to wave goodbye and blow kisses. Late Thursday night, Parsons scrubbed the Cowboys from his social media bios and posted what could be considered a farewell video to the organization.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy plans to meet with Parsons again on Sunday to discuss the situation. Meanwhile, Parsons' Twitter and Instagram profiles now list his Penn State background instead of the Cowboys as his employer.

Schottenheimer expects Parsons to be ready for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the future remains uncertain for both parties. The Cowboys will hope to resolve the matter amicably and have Parsons back on the field, contributing to their quest for success.
