The German Foreign Office is offering funding opportunities for projects in Africa and the Middle East, as well as for civil society organisations in the region and Germany. Here's what you need to know:

  • If your organisation has its registered office in Germany, you can send your application to [email protected]. For organisations based in Africa or the Middle East, you should contact the local German diplomatic mission responsible for your registered office.
  • Standard practice is shortfall financing, meaning that own or third-party funds must usually be contributed. Full financing is only possible in very well-justified exceptional cases.
  • Eligible entities include civil society organisations, state-independent non-governmental organisations, independent institutions of media or cultural creators in the states of Africa and the Near and Middle East. Civil society non-governmental organisations in Germany, including German AKGP intermediary organisations, and the German political foundations are also eligible.
  • A preliminary request (project idea) for the planned project must be submitted by 15.09. to be considered for funding in the following year.
  • Funding can be provided to all countries in the target region, including Africa and the Near and Middle East. The minimum funding amount for a project is usually 100,000 euros, with justified exceptions possible.
  • Funding is usually limited to the fiscal year, but in justified exceptional cases, funding for multi-year or cross-year projects (max. 3 years) is possible.
  • Only legal entities can submit an application; individuals are excluded. There are no guidelines for the final report (contents, deadlines).

Remember, the deadline for submitting funding requests is 15.09. to ensure funding for your project in the following year. For more information, contact the relevant German diplomatic mission or visit the German Foreign Office's website.
