In a tragic incident that occurred near the junction to the Besançon Allee, a passenger car collided with a parked truck at high speed. The impact was severe, causing the vehicle to catch fire immediately.
According to information provided by the Polizeipräsidium Freiburg, transmitted via news aktuell, a 46-year-old man was driving the vehicle with six other occupants, including four children aged three, six, seven, and 13. Tragically, two individuals, a 27-year-old man and a six-year-old child, died at the scene due to severe injuries. A 13-year-old child later succumbed to their injuries.
The remaining injured individuals were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, some by helicopter. At least seven people were injured, some severely. The total material damage is estimated to be in the mid-five-figure range.
Passersby managed to rescue the seven people from the burning vehicle before emergency services arrived. A large-scale rescue operation is currently underway, with the B3/B31 fully closed in the affected area for over an hour, and a local detour in place.
The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. The investigations by the Freiburg Public Prosecutor's Office and the police are ongoing.
