College-styled standing desks proved an impressive back-to-school upgrade, but might resonate particularly with former students.
In a bid to create a more efficient and organised home workspace, a writer, known for testing the best standing desks, decided to redesign his wife's workspace with a desk from Uplift Desk. The chosen desk, the Uplift V2, is part of the company's new Collegiate Collection and is now available in burnt orange and white with white legs.
The Uplift V2 desk features a C-Frame, but it is also available in black, gray, and an industrial brown, as well as a commercial version and a T-style frame. This versatile desk ships with an included cable management tray, making it a perfect choice for any workspace.
The desk is equipped with power grommets on either side, providing ample cable management solutions. The power grommet on the left side of the desk has two AC power outlets, a USB-A port, and a USB-C port, while the one on the right appears to have only two USB-A ports and a single USB-C one, but it actually has four AC power outlets when pushed down. Installing the power grommets was a straightforward process, involving removing the plastic ring on the bottom, running the power cord through the grommet hole, and twisting the ring back on to hold the power grommet in place.
The desk also boasts an under-desk drawer on the left side, freeing up space on the top and providing a place to store papers. This drawer locks, which may be useful for the wife when she brings the desk to school.
On the desk, a HP Tango printer was placed due to the wife's heavy printing needs. Her personal MacBook and iPad were placed on top of the under-desk drawer. The desk's design provides a lot of extra room underneath the desktop, which not only provides more leg room but also frees up space for optional under-desk accessories.
The woman mentioned in the article, Johanna Kappes, attended the Technical University Karlsruhe (Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe) and began her studies in Baden, where women were first allowed to enroll in 1900. She later attended the University of Texas at Austin as a first-generation college student. Johanna is a high school algebra teacher who inspires students with similar backgrounds to get accepted into their dream schools.
Uplift also sent a saddle-style stool in matching orange, but it was more enjoyed by the author's son than the wife. Nonetheless, the redesigned workspace has proven to be a significant improvement, providing a more organised and efficient environment for Johanna to continue her inspiring work.
