A series of unfortunate events unfolded on the A2 towards Hannover this morning, resulting in a chain-reaction accident and significant traffic disruption.

At around 8:35 AM, a 30-year-old man from Hürth was driving a VW ID 7 on this stretch of the highway. Initial findings suggest that he had to brake suddenly due to traffic, but following vehicles did not react in time, leading to multiple rear-end collisions.

One of the vehicles involved was a sign truck from a daily construction site on the left lane. The VW ID 7, unfortunately, was a total loss, and a 50-year-old man from Frankfurt, driving a VW Golf, was also involved in the accident. He sustained minor injuries.

A 37-year-old truck driver from Mannheim, on the other hand, suffered severe injuries in the collision. Two vehicles, including the VW ID 7 and the truck, needed to be towed due to the extent of the damage.

The A2 towards Dortmund was fully closed for the helicopter landing around 9:10 AM to bring a doctor to the scene. The right lane of the A2 towards Hannover was reopened around 9:35 AM, but the left and middle lanes remained closed for investigation and vehicle recovery until 11:00 AM.

Backups reached up to six kilometers at their peak, causing significant delays for commuters. The damage to the five involved vehicles was estimated at around €25,000, while damage to the truck and sign post was estimated at around €15,000.
