On September 14th, 2025, the historic monuments in Euskirchen city centre will open their doors to the public, offering a unique opportunity to delve into the city's rich history.

The Honor Cemetery, located on Frauenberger Straße, will be a key destination. This two-part memorial, inaugurated in 1954, honours the fallen of World War I and the war dead from 1936-1945. Here, you can find various war graves and memorials, including a simple gravestone of graywacke commemorating the unknown war dead, a stele of Muschelkalk symbolizing the Russian fallen, and a three-part gravestone wall commemorating the Polish fallen.

For those interested in learning more about monument preservation and landscape protection, the Rhenish Association for Monument Preservation and Landscape Protection e.V. will be on hand to explain their work and support for building and landscape monuments. Information about this, along with other aspects of the day's events, can be found at the info stand, FB 9, Lower Heritage Authority.

The evangelical church tower at Kölner Straße 41, rebuilt in 1952, will also be open for visitors. The tower, which dates back to 1894, features a semicircular external staircase, plaster strips, cornices, basalt columns, corner quaderings, and a bell floor. Guided tours of the tower will be available every hour from 11 am until 4 pm.

If you're intrigued by the history of Euskirchen's textile industry, the exhibition "Tuch zu Tuch - die Geschichte der Euskirchener Textilhersteller" will be open in the former mourning hall at the cemetery. Organized by the Euskirchen City Museum, this exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the city's textile manufacturers.

The "Casino" society house at Kaplan-Kellermann-Str.1, rebuilt in the Art Deco style in 1928, will also be open. The vaulted cellars of the "Casino" society house have recently been cleaned, offering a chance to appreciate the stone visibility. The cultural and support association CASINO e.V. will guide visitors through this high-quality building.

For those with a passion for railways, the Eisenbahnfreunde Euskirchen e.V. will be on hand to explain the "Zucker-Susi" and many other locomotives, with their technology explained. The "Prussian Locomotive Shed" at Oststraße 2a, built in 1885, will also be open, featuring the special locomotive "Zucker-Susi".

The day's events will culminate in a piano concert in the large hall at 4 pm, and children's painting posters will be available throughout the day. Additionally, guided tours on topics related to the end of World War II in Euskirchen will start at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.

Lastly, the ecumenical project "Living Cemetery" will be presented, offering a poignant reminder of the significance of these historic monuments and the stories they hold. This promises to be a day rich in history, culture, and learning, and an opportunity not to be missed.
