In a significant milestone, the international electric train named "Dioscuria" embarked on its inaugural journey from Imeretinsky Kurort station in Sochi, marking the beginning of a new era in transportation between Russia and Abkhazia. Coincidentally, the same day also saw the first flight taking off from Sukhumi Airport in 30 years.

The "Dioscuria", constructed by the French company Alstom, made its way through Abkhazia, stopping at various stations including Abaata, Gagrysh, Gagry, Bzybta, Gudauta, Psyrtskha, and New Athos. The train's carriages are adorned with vibrant works by Abkhazian and Russian artists, adding a touch of culture to this historic journey.

The train, named after the ancient Greek city of Dioscurias that was built on the site of present-day Sukhumi in the 6th century BC, will run twice daily between Sochi and Sukhumi. This new service is expected to significantly reduce travel time, with the journey duration being 3 hours and 35 minutes.

Customs and border control will take place on board at Veseloe and Tsandrypsh stations, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers. The maiden voyage was reported on by Sputnik Abkhazia, and a photograph of the event, captured by Thomas Tkhaitsuk / Sputnik, accompanied the article.

This development is not only a step towards strengthening the ties between Russia and Abkhazia but also a testament to the progress in transportation infrastructure in the region. The first flight from Sukhumi Airport and the introduction of the "Dioscuria" train on the same day are symbols of renewed connections and a promising future.
