Commencement of early classes at the novel ALMA school

The former Anne-Frank School, located at Von-Behring-Straße, has been given a new lease of life and a new name. It is now known as the ALMA School Center. This transformation is the result of extensive renovations and rebuilding work carried out by the city of Nordhorn over the past few months.

The architectural firm KSB Architekten from Bielefeld was responsible for the design of the ALMA School Center. Approximately 2.15 million euros have been invested in the project so far, with the largest expense being the complete renewal of the building technology, including electronics, heating, and ventilation, costing around 1.2 million euros.

The new ALMA School Center houses both the Astrid-Lindgren School and Marienschule. The students of these schools moved into their new classrooms on August 9, 2018. The new canteen offers around 110 seats, providing a comfortable space for the students to dine.

The renovation of the ALMA School Center is not yet complete. Further work, including energy-efficient renovations of the roof, walls, and windows, as well as the development of the schoolyard and renovation of the sports hall, will continue for the next two years. The city council has allocated an additional around 1.5 million euros for the ongoing work.

The name "ALMA School Center" is an acronym of the Astrid-Lindgren School and Marienschule. The school principals made the decision to call the new building by this name. The former Anne-Frank School buildings now house the new classrooms.

The building that was transformed into the ALMA School Center was previously used as a refugee accommodation by the County of Grafschaft Bentheim. The renovation and rebuilding work on the ALMA School Center began in January 2018, and the result is a modern, energy-efficient, and spacious new home for the Astrid-Lindgren School and Marienschule.
