Commencement of routine operation: debut of the new TINA tram in daily service today
New TINA Trams Begin Service in Halle (Saale)
After a thorough test phase, the new TINA trams have officially started their regular service in Halle (Saale), marking a significant milestone for passengers and public transport in the city. The TINA trams, manufactured by Stadler, are a key component in modernizing the HAVAG fleet and are set to shape the cityscape for at least three decades.
The TINA trams, available in XL and M variants, have been undergoing rigorous testing to ensure they meet the highest standards. The testing includes checking doors, drives, air conditioning, passenger information systems, collision warning systems, and overall driving behavior.
The XL variant, weighing around 60 tons, and the M variant, weighing approximately 44 tons, have caused higher vibrations during test runs and at some points on the HAVAG network. However, Stadler is working closely with HAVAG to find solutions to reduce these vibrations.
A total of 39 shorter TINA variants will be deployed in Halle (Saale), with the first MGT-XL vehicle being the first of a total of 17 XL vehicles (45 meters long). The first MGT-M type vehicle, 30 meters long, is expected to be approved in November.
The new TINA tram generation is equipped with 100% low-floor, wide aisles, large gangways, and large multifunctional areas for wheelchairs, rollators, and strollers, making them more accessible for all passengers.
Initially, an MGT-XL type tram will operate on lines 1, 2, and 3 across the entire city area. Further TINA vehicles will be used as training vehicles to gradually train all HAVAG drivers for the new vehicle generation.
The trial operation of the MGT-XL type vehicle is part of a three-month agreement with the manufacturer Stadler. The trial phase aims to test the new vehicles under real conditions in terms of reliability and functionality.
After the successful completion of the test operation and acceptance, the TINA trams will be gradually introduced into regular service, replacing the over 30-year-old MGT6D vehicles. HAVAG has ordered a total of 56 TINA trams from Stadler, with five already having arrived.
Vinzenz Schwarz, CEO of HAVAG, stated that this marks a significant milestone for passengers and public transport in Halle (Saale). The TINA trams are not only a step towards modernizing the HAVAG fleet but also part of a development towards sustainable mobility in the city.
