In a heartbreaking turn of events, Jimmy Fenwick and his team are mourning the loss of their greyhound, Coppice Gracie. The dog, owned by Tony Brealey, suffered a fatal abdominal tear and internal bleeding following a race on Thursday night.

Coppice Gracie had a promising career, with explosive speed that earned her the title of a dog of a lifetime. However, bad luck seemed to follow her, as she suffered a setback due to a gracilis injury during last year's British Breeders Stakes final at Nottingham. After recovering and returning to racing in July, she won three out of seven races, showing her resilience and determination.

In Thursday's race, Coppice Gracie took an early bump and finished fourth behind Blackhouse Kim. Despite her distress at the pick-up, nothing could be done to save her.

Meanwhile, in the heats of the Arc Standard, Ballymac Sargie, trained by Tom Heilbron, went quickest with a time of 28.34sec. Blackhouse Lewi, another contender, won another heat with a time of 28.66sec. Crooks Stevie, trained by Stephen Caile, struck late with a time of 28.78sec, while Makeit Mead, owned by Ray Hale, won Heat one with a time of 28.75sec.

The Arc Puppy heats also took place, with Racenight Jane, owned by Fairbairn, and Blueys Elle winning their respective heats. The full draw for the finals is as follows:

  • Arc Puppy: Blueys Elle, Blackhouse Lewi, Droopys Anthea, Glengar Lisa, Five Ofa Kind (m), Racenight Jane (w)
  • Arc Bitches: Skeard Magic, Bogger Darling (m), Makeit Mead (m), Donishall Rose (m), Blackhouse Kim (w), Magical Ruby (w)
  • Arc Standard: Velvet Black, Howay Tonali (m), Ballymac Sargie (m), Slingshot Gazza (m), Crooks Stevie (m), vacant

However, the loss of Coppice Gracie casts a shadow over the racing community. Jimmy Fenwick, who operates the "Fenwick's Fawn" greyhound racing kennel, said, "Coppice Gracie was a dog of a lifetime. She had explosive speed but bad luck. She will be greatly missed."

Our thoughts are with Jimmy Fenwick, Tony Brealey, and all those affected by this sad news. Coppice Gracie's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the races she won.
