Comparing CASP and CISSP: Insights from Personal Endeavors
In the world of cybersecurity, certifications are a testament to an individual's expertise and commitment to the field. One such certification is the Certified Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) exam, administered by the EC-Council (International Council of E-Commerce Consultants).
I found myself at the starting point of this journey, facing a choice between two prestigious certifications: the CASP and the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). After careful consideration, I decided to take the CASP exam first.
The CASP exam is known for its challenges, and I felt confident that I could complete the multiple-choice questions quickly. Unlike the CISSP, the CASP allows you to review and change your answers, making it a bit easier.
The test began with seven simulations, each of which took me approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. These simulations were weighted more heavily than the multiple-choice section, making them crucial to my success. As I progressed, subsequent questions helped me to remember and correct answers.
The CASP exam is a great and respected achievement to earn this certification, demonstrating the author's expertise at the technical level. Despite its challenges, I found it less daunting than the stories I had heard about the CISSP.
While I was preparing for the CASP exam, I heard tale after tale about people failing the CISSP. It was described as one of the most challenging and dreaded tests. I was scared to take it, and I initially felt that I didn't have what it takes to pass the CISSP test.
In contrast, the CASP exam is considered the test that should follow after successfully passing the Security+ exam. It requires in-depth knowledge in the cybersecurity domains, but it is probably 50x harder than the Security+ exam.
While I was preparing for the CASP, I came across a persistent person who was scheduled to take the CISSP for the 5th time and failed it again. This served as a reminder of the challenges that lay ahead in the world of cybersecurity certifications.
In the end, I am grateful for the opportunity to have taken the CASP exam and earned this certification. It was a challenging journey, but one that I am proud to have completed. As for the CISSP, I may one day find the courage to face its challenges.
