Construction Kickoff Ignored Essential Detail by Investor

The construction project in Weingarten's Martinshöfe quarter, which involves the planned construction of 500 apartments, has faced a delayed start. This delay, according to Mayor Clemens Moll, is primarily due to the timing of craftsmen's holidays, not any issues or obstacles with the project itself.

Originally scheduled to begin on August 4th, the construction work has been postponed until at least September 1st. The craftsmen's holidays, which extend from August 4th to August 22nd, have necessitated this delay.

Buwog, the investor and subsidiary of Vonovia, announced the start of construction for August 4th, but failed to take into account the timing of the craftsmen's holidays. Despite this setback, Buwog remains optimistic and claims that it can still complete the quarter as originally planned by 2032.

In a new agreement with Buwog, the city of Weingarten has waived 112 parking spaces in the Martinshöfe quarter. In return, Buwog must pay significantly higher penalties if it fails to meet the agreed construction deadlines, though the amount remains confidential.

The change in the building plan, required due to the waived parking spaces, is taking time, leading to uncertainty about the project's progress. However, Mayor Moll believes that Buwog's decision to start construction is a confidence-building measure.

Despite the construction site remaining inactive, an excavator has been placed on the site, indicating that work is set to begin soon. The city and Buwog are working together to ensure that the project proceeds smoothly and that the delayed start does not lead to further costs or delays.

The construction delay is a setback for the project, but it is not a cause for concern. The city and Buwog are committed to delivering the much-needed housing in Weingarten's Martinshöfe quarter, and they are working tirelessly to ensure that the project progresses as planned.
