Plans to revamp Beckergrube in Lübeck are steadfast. Bridges connecting the area have been shut off, and Beckergrube itself is now closed, realizing a long-held aspiration.

Lübeck, a city in northern Germany, is set to transform Beckergrube, a key area in the city centre, into a "Shared Space." Despite uncertainties, the city remains committed to this project, aiming to create an attractive and traffic-calmed zone.

The tender for the renovation is scheduled for March, with the project set to begin in the spring of 2024 and continue until spring 2026. However, the exact duration of the subsequent construction work for the Hub bridges will be clarified at a later date.

During construction, Beckergrube will generally remain accessible as a one-way street. However, there will be times when it must be completely closed. The city administration has only referred to possible detours for traffic in the northern city centre during renovation. The completion of Hüxtertorallee is planned for December, which could serve as an additional detour route.

The city's address is Hansestadt Lübeck, Breite Str. 62, 23552 Lübeck. For updates on the project, you can follow the city's Instagram account, Stadt Lübeck, or its Facebook account, Stadt Lübeck. The city's website can be accessed at Stadt Lübeck.

The responsibility for traffic management during the renovation of Beckergrube lies with the local authorities and administrations that are responsible for planning and implementing traffic measures. These include the City Administration, the Traffic Department or Traffic Office, the City Planning Office, the Building Administration, and the Lübeck Police. External consultants or engineering firms may also be involved to advise and support specific aspects of traffic planning.

Notably, the upper section of Beckergrube is already designated as a "Shared Space" in the city's master plan. However, a clear solution for traffic during the renovation has not been presented yet. Delaying the measures for the renovation is not possible as the funder's timeline must be met.

With the renovation of Beckergrube underway, the city of Lübeck is taking significant steps towards transforming its urban landscape. Construction vehicle issues due to traffic jams are already being addressed, indicating the city's commitment to ensuring a smooth transition during the renovation process.
