The Hamburg Police Department recently concluded its traffic safety campaign, Operation Safe Holiday, which ran from July 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025, in the Hamburg city area.

During this period, the Traffic Directorate South (VD 4) conducted focus checks on motorhomes and caravans, with seven additional checks taking place. These checks resulted in 190 vehicles being inspected, and four defect reports were drawn up due to missing documents or technical defects on the vehicles.

The checks also revealed that 14 cases of caravans or motorhomes were overloaded, leading to administrative proceedings against those responsible. Experts from the traffic directorate provided information on proper cargo securing during the event, aiming to educate drivers on safe loading practices.

The Traffic Directorate 1 (Traffic Monitoring) also conducted targeted speed checks, recording 2,183 speeding offenses among 32,748 measured vehicles. In addition, two criminal proceedings were initiated for suspected driving without a license during the focus checks on specific dates.

In total, 366 drivers can expect the registration of at least one point in the driving license register, with 15 of them facing a minimum one-month driving ban. Furthermore, in 17 cases, further travel was prohibited due to reasons not specified.

Officers from VD 6 (Traffic Education and Prevention) supported the focus checks by conducting prevention talks and distributing themed information material. The action weeks included a traditional prevention event where drivers could have their vehicles and caravans weighed for free.

The Hamburg Police Department will continue to conduct similar checks in the future to increase safety on Hamburg's roads and to raise awareness among drivers. Many drivers are now aware of the importance of safe loading and a technically sound vehicle, according to the checks.
