In the past few weeks, a series of arson incidents have been reported in Offenburg and Baden-Baden, causing concern among locals and authorities alike. The incidents, though not directly linked, share similarities that suggest a possible connection.

Last Wednesday evening, two trash cans were set on fire outside a school building on Stephanienstraße in Offenburg. Thanks to the swift intervention of the fire department and sheer luck, these fires did not cause a larger conflagration. Just a few days earlier, on July 18th, the contents of a trash can were set on fire at the same location.

In Baden-Baden, multiple arson attacks have been committed in recent weeks, damaging several buildings and shop windows. On July 16th, juveniles were observed setting fire to a large pile of leaves near a transformer station at Klosterplatz, causing significant property damage. In the weeks prior, police and fire department personnel were repeatedly dispatched due to burning waste paper.

The Technical Relief Agency assisted firefighters at the scene of the incidents, and the Rastatt Criminal Investigation Department is leading the investigation in both cities. The total damage is estimated at around 70,000 euros, and no suspects have been identified.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to contact the police on the emergency number 110 or 0781 21-2820 for Offenburg. Anyone with suspicious observations can also contact the Police Headquarters Offenburg at 0781 - 211211 or [email protected] for further inquiries.

Whether these incidents are connected cannot be ruled out at this time. The intense heat from the fires has even damaged an adjacent stone wall, underscoring the potential danger posed by such acts. In such cases, significant property damage or even endangerment of human life can occur quickly.

In Baden-Baden, the fires were set using discarded cardboard, burning waste paper, and a parasol. The investigations are being carried out by the police in Offenburg and the criminal investigation department in Rastatt, but no suspects have been identified yet. A nighttime search was unsuccessful in finding the perpetrator.

The earlier fire incidents in Offenburg, though not directly mentioned, share similarities with the recent Baden-Baden incidents, suggesting a possible connection. Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is encouraged to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the communities in Offenburg and Baden-Baden.
