Corona virus infections surge with 22,046 new cases reported by RKI; a significant increase in fatalities also noted
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Germany's central public health institute, has reported a decrease in the number of new COVID-19 infections and related deaths.
On Thursday morning, the RKI reported 22,046 new COVID-19 infections, a slight decrease from the previous Thursday's report of 22,268 new infections. This decline represents a 1.0 percent decrease in the number of new cases.
Simultaneously, the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units remains relatively high. As of Thursday morning, 3,952 COVID-19 patients were still being treated in intensive care units, a figure that has remained stable.
The RKI also reported 479 deaths within 24 hours in connection with the virus. However, it is always unclear whether these deaths occurred due to or with the virus. It is important to note that most of the reported deaths in Germany in the last month occurred in August 2025, as the latest data on monthly deaths (including those linked to COVID-19) are available up to that month.

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, the RKI will continue to provide updates on the spread of COVID-19 infections and related deaths in Germany.
