Leading the charge is Caesars, the host of the World Series of Poker's (WSOP) flagship live tournament series. Since 2011, Caesars has managed to reduce its greenhouse emissions by a impressive 23%, and water consumption by 11% since 2008.

The WSOP isn't just setting an example with its internal practices. It's also collaborating with organisations like the One Drop Foundation, which provides safe water and sanitation to underserved communities globally.

The poker platform ACR Poker organised a high-stakes tournament last year that offered participants a chance to win a spot in the $500,000 GTD Enjoy Poker Tour Main Event 2025. But what sets ACR Poker apart is its commitment to sustainability. For instance, it held a tournament at the Punta del Este Resort and Casino, a hotel that follows a sustainability plan.

The global poker industry is not lagging behind. With a 13.6% compound annual growth rate, the industry is taking extra steps towards implementing green initiatives, sustainability efforts, and community empowerment in its high-stakes games. Companies like PokerStars and partypoker are actively involved, implementing eco-friendly initiatives and supporting social projects to enhance their Corporate Social Responsibility.

The poker scene is also making a lasting positive impact on communities. This is evident in New Hampshire, where poker card rooms and casinos donated over $17.7 million to charities in 2022, as mandated by House Bill 1744. Charities supported include food banks, women's shelters, and the N.H. Wildlife Federation.

The Warriors Community Foundation, supported by the NBA's Golden State Warriors, is another shining example. Since its establishment in 2012, the Foundation has raised over $35 million in funding to support and empower the educational development of the youth. All net proceeds from the Warriors' Poker Tournament are given to Bay Area non-profits as part of the Foundation's annual grant cycle.

The 10th annual Warriors Community Foundation Poker Tournament, held in 2022, raised a record-high $3.5 million. The event serves as an avenue to heighten environmental awareness among players or attendees, much like the Greenlight Capital Charity Poker Tournament organised by American investor and poker player David Einhorn. This tournament raises funds for charitable organisations promoting environmental sustainability measures.

The industry's commitment to sustainability and community development is clear. Whether it's through digital registration and payment processes, reducing paper usage, water and energy conservation, or organising tournaments to fund initiatives empowering underserved communities, the poker world is making a difference.
