Council member's hypothetical musings...
In the heart of Germany, the city of Mannheim is inviting children to experience democracy first-hand through an exciting event called the Agenda Action. This event, taking place on October 30th and 31st at the Stadthaus, is part of Mannheim's 2030 vision and contributes directly to the city's future goals.
The Agenda Action activities, organised by the Department of Democracy and Strategy, are separate from the role-playing game "If I were in the city council...". During the event, children aged 8-12 will form factions, propose ideas, and participate in simulated city council meetings to gain majorities and make decisions.
The Agenda Action activities are not confined to just one day. They extend until early November, providing ample opportunity for children to participate and engage. For those who take part in at least four activities, a certificate will be awarded as a token of achievement.
Several cooperation partners are offering "join-in" activities within the Mannheim Agenda Action, focusing on sustainability. The aim is to make the topic of sustainability more enjoyable and accessible for children, while contributing to the overall goal of Mannheim's 2030 vision.
For more information about the Agenda Action or to register for the role-playing game "If I were in the city council...", contact Robert Erasmy at the Department of Democracy and Strategy. You can reach him at Tel: 0621 293-9336 or via email at buergerbeteiligung@unser website.
It's important to note that some places are still available for the event. So, if you're looking for a unique and educational experience for your child, the Agenda Action could be just the ticket. By participating, your child not only gets to experience democracy up close but also contributes to Mannheim's vision for a sustainable future.
