Crowd Gathers for Blue Light Day Celebrations on Castle Square (HZA-BS)

The Hauptzollamt Braunschweig organised a captivating event on a recent day, known as the Blue Light Day. This family-friendly event, which attracted thousands of visitors, aimed to provide insights into the daily work of various emergency services and organisations.

The day began with the patron, Mayor Dr. Kornblum, expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the security and public order authorities, rescue and aid organisations, and the Blue Light family. The event was a resounding success, with children's eyes sparkling and adults impressed by the demonstrations and interactions.

One of the highlights of the day was the presence of "Mateo," a large plush mascot of customs, who attracted attention and enchanted children. Visitors also had the opportunity to test how alcohol and drugs affect body movements with virtual reality glasses at the police stand.

The program included emergency and special vehicles and equipment from Bundeswehr, customs, state police, federal police, justice, fire brigade, rescue services, and aid organisations. Professionals provided information about their daily work and expert tips on how to behave in various situations.

Customs showcased a mobile X-ray vehicle for bag and backpack screening, while the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund demonstrated the use of an underwater drone. Children were particularly fond of the various spray and glue tattoos and stamps from the Wolfenbüttel prison and the federal and state police.

In addition to the demonstrations, the Blue Light Day provided short insights into defensive and seizure techniques by the police and search exercises by customs dog Berta, who completed her training last month and has already made her first finds in practice.

Twenty future recruits were welcomed at the customs stand for pre-boarding, starting their training or dual studies on 01.09.2025. In September 2025, 28 new Zoll (customs) trainees will start at Hauptzollamt Braunschweig, including 7 in the higher service with a dual study program for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and 21 in the middle service training as financial officials. The specific names of individuals are not publicly disclosed.

Ayla Schröder and Janine Falk from Braunschweig Stadtmarketing GmbH assisted in organising the event. For further questions, contact Dagmar Täger at Hauptzollamt Braunschweig via phone, email, or website.

The organisers expressed their desire to make the Blue Light Day a tradition, inviting everyone to join them for future events and gain a deeper understanding of the crucial work carried out by emergency services and organisations in our community.
