Cryptocurrency XRP Slips Out of Top 3 Rankings as USDT Surges and XRP Prices Drop Significantly
In the past 24-36 hours, the cryptocurrency market, including XRP, has not been spared from a significant downturn. The once-prominent digital asset has lost its third spot in terms of market capitalization to Tether's USDT.
XRP's native cryptocurrency, issued by the fintech company Ripple, is currently experiencing a downward trend. The digital asset slipped to $2.73, a level not seen since August 3, but has since recovered some ground to trade at just over $2.8 as of press time.
This dip in XRP's value has allowed Tether's USDT to claim the third spot, with a current market cap of $167,613,338, according to CoinGecko. Ripple, along with its token, has dropped out of the top 100 assets by market cap and currently holds the 121st rank, according to 8marketcap.
Despite the current drawback, some community members and analysts believe XRP still has a long way to go this cycle. They point to the digital asset's performance in mid-July when it reached a new all-time high of $3.65.
However, since mid-July, XRP has failed to maintain its run and has frequently dropped below the crucial $3 support line. The exact reasons for this decline are not immediately clear, with no publicly available information indicating who has taken over the Ripple XRP positions previously held by financial giants such as Charles Schwab, BlackRock, and Xiaomi.
Meanwhile, the broader cryptocurrency market is also facing challenges. Bitcoin, specifically, has dumped to a seven-week low, adding to the market's woes. Multiple price predictions for XRP remain optimistic, but it remains to be seen how the digital asset will fare in the coming days.
