In a recent testing spree, Andrew Tsai, a Mac gamer and YouTube creator, put Cyberpunk 2077 to the test on four different Mac models. From the first-generation M1 MacBook Air to the M4 MacBook Pro, the game performed relatively well on all tested machines that were within spec.

The M4 MacBook Pro, with its 10-core GPU and 16GB of unified memory, delivered an average of 26.22 FPS for Cyberpunk 2077 without upscaling. With upscaling turned on, the M4 chip managed to deliver more than 30 FPS, showcasing the game's potential with Apple's silicon.

Interestingly, when tested via CrossOver, the M4 MacBook Pro only lost about three FPS compared to running it natively. This suggests that compatibility layers can offer a viable solution for Mac gamers.

The first-generation M1 MacBook Air, which doesn't officially support Cyberpunk 2077 due to its 8GB of unified memory, achieved a little over 12 FPS with MetalFX set to quality.

CD Projekt Red, the developer responsible for optimizing Cyberpunk 2077 for Apple Silicon, released a native macOS version of the game targeting M1 to M4 series chips. This native version was launched in July 2025, aligning with Patch 2.3. Users who previously bought the game on Steam were able to install it directly on their Apple computers at no additional cost.

The M3 Max MacBook Pro, with its 40-core GPU and 48GB of unified memory, performed the best, achieving more than 78 FPS at 1080p High and upscaling turned off. When MetalFX was set to quality on this machine, performance jumped to more than 100 FPS, delivering an absolutely smooth gameplay experience.

The M1 Max MacBook Pro, with its consistent 32-core GPU, delivered a consistent 51.87 FPS whether MetalFX is turned on or off.

Andrew Tsai expects FPS numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 on Apple Silicon to improve over the coming months as the developers continue to optimize the game further. The test results of this extensive study were shared in a YouTube video, offering valuable insights for Mac gamers.
