Cyclist Assaulted with Metal Rod on August-Bebel-Damm: Investigated for Attempted Homicide
In Magdeburg, Germany, a 60-year-old man was the victim of a violent attack on August 15, 2025. The incident occurred on the bike path of August-Bebel-Damm, where the man was riding his bike.
At around 16:00, the 60-year-old man was pushed off his bike by an unknown attacker. The attacker used a metal rod and a sharp object during the assault, resulting in injuries that required the victim to be taken to a hospital for further medical treatment.
The State Prosecutor's Office in Magdeburg is handling the case, and on August 16, 2025, a 52-year-old man was temporarily arrested nearby in connection with the attack. The suspect, whose details have not been disclosed, was brought before the Magistrate's Court in Magdeburg and a detention order was issued.
The Magistrate's Court also ordered the suspect to be placed in a psychiatric clinic for evaluation. On August 18, 2025, the public prosecutor accused the suspect in connection with the attack. However, the specialized clinic where the suspect is currently being held is not specified.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing, and it has been confirmed that the victim and the suspect did not know each other before the incident. The 60-year-old man has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering.
