City of Bottrop Prepares for Emergency Information Point (EIP) Test

The city of Bottrop is taking steps to ensure its citizens are well-prepared for emergencies. In line with the Law on Fire Protection, Assistance and Disaster Control (BHKG), the city has established a network of 24 Emergency Information Points (EIPs) throughout the city.

These EIPs, marked with red signs and beach flags, are strategically placed to offer vital information and behavioural guidelines during emergencies. They are staffed by members of the volunteer fire department, aid organisations, and municipal employees, ensuring a knowledgeable and efficient response.

Each EIP is equipped with a radio connection to the control center, enabling citizens to report emergencies on-site using a pre-prepared form. In case of an emergency, it is crucial for citizens to remember their EIP and not rely on internet searches, as access may be limited.

To help citizens find their nearest EIP, a flyer with the locations of all 24 EIPs has been distributed to households. The flyer is also available at the fire department's booth, on the city's homepage under "Blackout - what to do?", in the citizen's office, and the information point in the city center.

On August 21, the fire department will provide information about the EIPs and the NINA warning app at the after-work market on the town hall square. This will give citizens a chance to familiarise themselves with these resources before an emergency arises.

On September 20, a large-scale exercise will be held to test the operational capability of the EIPs. All 24 EIP locations will be fully set up, staffed, and operated in a realistic manner. This exercise serves as an important dress rehearsal for emergencies, ensuring that the city is well-prepared to respond effectively.

The city of Bottrop also receives staff for emergency information offices from organisations such as the Malteser Hilfsdienst (Malteser Aid Service), who provide trained personnel in emergency medical and pedagogical skills.

Citizens are encouraged to be prepared at home with essentials such as water, non-cookable food, medication, cash, a full tank of gas, and a flashlight. Being prepared can make a significant difference during emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
