Fatal Traffic Accident on Werler Street, Hamm-Rhynern
A tragic incident occurred on Werler Street in Hamm-Rhynern on September 1, 2025, claiming the life of a 43-year-old motorcyclist.
The accident took place at the intersection with Heideweg around 16:35, involving a motorcyclist riding a Suzuki motorcycle towards the city center and a BMW car traveling in the opposite direction.
The 68-year-old driver of the BMW attempted to illegally turn left onto Heideweg, causing the collision. As a result, both vehicles were impounded for further investigation.
Unfortunately, despite immediate CPR efforts, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. The 63-year-old passenger in the BMW was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with severe injuries.
A 38-year-old cyclist from Hamm was also hit by flying vehicle parts and taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The police officers involved in the investigation included a crash investigation team from the Münster police, teams from the Hammer police responsible for victim support, and several emergency pastoral care workers. The incident also involved the fire department and rescue services at the scene.
Firefighters and several bystanders provided first aid at the accident site. Traffic was rerouted due to the accident investigation, and Werler Street was closed between Rhynerberg and Dr.-Loeb-Caldenhof-Straße from 16:35 to 21:30.
