Decarbonization of East Brabant Bus Fleet Planned by Arriva Under €1.6 Billion Agreement in Netherlands

In a significant move, Arriva Group has been awarded a 12.5-year contract extension worth 1.6 billion EUR by the Dutch public transport authority, Brabantse Vervoerregio. This new contract will see Arriva operating public bus services in East Brabant, starting from December 2026.

The contract extension reinforces Arriva's strong market position in the Netherlands and strengthens its footprint in the region. It is a result of a competitive tender process and demonstrates continued trust from local Passenger Transport Authorities in Arriva's ability to deliver value for passengers.

One of the key aspects of the renewed contract is a commitment to fleet decarbonisation. Arriva plans to replace its current diesel buses with 170 new zero-emission vehicles in East Brabant, supporting the Netherlands' push towards more sustainable public transport networks.

The new contract also aims to improve service levels, with an expected 15% increase in service frequency and the introduction of faster, more direct routes. Arriva will focus on cleaner and more comfortable vehicles, ensuring a better experience for passengers.

The East Brabant contract is a continuation of Arriva's operations in the West Brabant region, where Arriva began operating under a 900 million EUR, 10-year contract this month. The extension is a boost for Arriva's long-term growth strategy.

However, it's important to note that the new contract does not provide information about potential job changes or additions within Arriva Group. Similarly, there is no mention of any changes in the pricing structure for passengers in East Brabant.

This development marks a significant step forward in Arriva's mission to provide sustainable and efficient public transport solutions in the Netherlands. The introduction of new routes and the commitment to fleet decarbonisation will undoubtedly contribute to a cleaner and more comfortable public transport network in East Brabant.
