Decline in Southwest's Exports to both USA and China - Decrease in Southwest's exports to the United States and China observed significantly

In the first half of this year, Baden-Württemberg, Germany's most export-oriented economy, has experienced a significant decline. This downturn, marked by a stagnation in external trade and a decrease in exports, is attributed to global trade disputes and economic slowdown.

One of the most notable declines has been in exports to the USA, which decreased by around ten percent. This marks the second consecutive year of significant decline, a trend that BWIHK Vice-President Claus Paal stated had begun two years ago. However, it's unclear from available information which new suppliers from Baden-Württemberg to the US automotive industry have played a significant role in this decline. Challenges in Baden-Württemberg’s automotive supply sector are evident, with companies like Huber Automotive AG facing insolvency due to struggles in electromobility, and major suppliers like Bosch undergoing layoffs due to industry pressures.

Interestingly, exports to Switzerland increased by 19 percent during the same period, reaching 12.2 billion euros. This growth is largely due to the significant commodity group of pharmaceutical products, which are the most important in bilateral trade between Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the US auto market is changing due to the rapid rise of new providers, which may be contributing to the decline in exports to the USA. In contrast, exports to Spain, Poland, Austria, Italy, and France increased respectively by 8.4 percent, 6.1 percent, 4.3 percent, 2.8 percent, and 1.2 percent in the first half of the year.

On the domestic front, more production is occurring locally in the pharmaceutical sector in the USA. In mechanical engineering, many US companies are increasingly relying on their own capacities or Asian suppliers. The pharmaceutical industry in Baden-Württemberg, however, was not specifically mentioned as experiencing a decrease in the current period.

Auto sales in China decreased by 40 percent, contributing to the decline in exports to China. Exports to China decreased by more than 16 percent during the same period. Switzerland is now Baden-Württemberg's most important country of origin for imports.

It's worth noting that there is no new information about the US auto market, trade dispute, economic downturn, or local production in the US in the current paragraph. Similarly, there is no new information about the decreasing exports to China or the declining auto sales in China in the current paragraph.

In summary, Baden-Württemberg's economy is facing challenges, particularly in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as in mechanical engineering. However, the growth in exports to Switzerland offers a glimmer of hope amidst the global economic slowdown.
