The City of Hawaiian Gardens is set to host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony, honouring past and present men in uniform, including those who have been deported and denied basic benefits. The event, scheduled for Sunday, October 27, from 11AM to 12:30PM, will take place at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7243, 12064 Centralia St., Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716.

Artist Javier Salazar has been commissioned to paint a mural for the occasion, which will be unveiled the day before the ceremony on Saturday, October 26, starting at 1 p.m. The mural installation will involve VFW post members, other veterans, ABCUSD high school students, and community members.

The Veterans Day Ceremony is a free event and will be held at the C. Robert Lee Activity Center. The ceremonies will honour U.S. veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

In addition to the mural unveiling, a new public library service memorial will also be constructed at the Public Library Plaza. Food will be served following the ceremony.

Javier Ortiz, VFW Post Commander, stated that it is their duty to support veterans vulnerable to deportation and those who have already been deported. For more information about the event, visit leavenoonebehindmuralproject.org or contact Robert Vivar at 619-327-6673 or [email protected].

The City Council awarded a contract to Southbay Landscaping, Inc. to construct a new Veterans Memorial Plaza at City Hall. The Honor Guards will stand on guard by the star-shaped stone granite memorial during the ceremonies. The event is a tribute to U.S. veterans who have served their country, regardless of their current circumstances.
