"Delighted Individual Sustains Injuries Following Supermarket Roof Cave-In"

In a surprising incident, parts of the roof of a Rewe supermarket in the town of Waldshut-Tiengen, near the Swiss border, collapsed on Saturday afternoon. The collapse left approximately 50 firefighters on the scene until Saturday evening, as they worked to secure the area and search for any potential casualties.

Fortunately, only four people were injured in the incident, with two sustaining serious injuries. The rescue helicopter was deployed but was not needed to transport any of the injured to a clinic. The identities of the victims are currently unclear.

The supermarket, which underwent renovation and reopened in mid-August, was the scene of the collapse. However, the specific construction works carried out, including any on the roof, are currently unclear. It is worth noting that the renovation work at the Rewe market in Waldshut-Tiengen focused only on the interior furnishings and did not include any construction work on the roof; the roof was not affected by the renovation.

Inflated balloons and a mirror, which usually hangs above the cash register, were found among the debris. The fallen ceiling panels and insulation material covered the cash registers, adding to the chaos of the incident.

The police have secured the building and cordoned it off, while investigators will deploy an expert to determine the cause of the collapse. The volunteer firefighters estimate the damage to the building to be in the millions. To eliminate potential danger, the solar panel system on the roof had to be made inoperable.

Rescue teams are using thermal imaging cameras to search for casualties under the rubble. As of now, no statement has been made by the trading company Rewe regarding the incident.

Unfortunately, the goods, especially the chilled and frozen ones, will spoil due to the incident. The incident disrupted the daily routines of the local community, and the supermarket remains closed until further notice.

The fire department had previously turned off the electricity, water, and gas to ensure safety. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures during construction works. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
