Delightful Aspects of Matcha-Flavored Chocolate Turtle Cookies

Delve into the world of matcha-infused desserts with this scrumptious Shortbread Matcha Turtles recipe. This delectable treat, developed by Dr. Oetker, offers a harmonious blend of flavours that will tantalize your taste buds.

The recipe calls for a large mixing bowl, small mixing bowls, a small microwave-safe bowl, a hand mixer, a rubber spatula, a small cookie scoop, two baking sheets, parchment paper or silicone mats, a bamboo skewer or toothpick, a cooling rack, a piping bag, half a cup of unsalted butter, a quarter cup of granulated sugar, two teaspoons of vanilla extract, one cup of all-purpose flour, half to one tablespoon of culinary-grade matcha powder, half a teaspoon of salt, a quarter cup of milk or dark chocolate chips, and one teaspoon of coconut oil.

To begin, preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, matcha powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until a smooth dough forms.

Shape the dough into turtle-like figures, creating the head, legs, and tail. Use the remaining dough to form the shell. Bake the cookies for approximately 10-13 minutes, or until the edges are set and the dough is slightly golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for five minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

While the cookies are baking, prepare the chocolate coating. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted. Fold it in until thoroughly combined.

Once the cookies have cooled, use the bamboo skewer or toothpick to add indents for the turtle's eyes. If desired, decorate the cookies with chocolate designs or crushed macadamia nuts for added texture. The decorating time for the cookies is approximately 10 minutes.

The matcha taste in these cookies balances the sweetness and butteriness, creating a unique and delightful flavour profile. The recipe yields 12 turtle cookies, making it perfect for sharing. Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. These Shortbread Matcha Turtles are best enjoyed with a steaming cup of coffee or a scoop of ice cream.
