Hamburg Hof Reconstruction Underway in City Centre

The Hamburg Hof reconstruction project, located on the iconic Jungfernstieg, is well underway in the heart of the city. Led by Meag, the asset manager for Munich Re and Ergo, the project is a collaboration between Sonar Development and Harmonia Immobilien GmbH.

Demolition work on the building at Große Bleichen/Corner Poststraße commenced in August 2025, with about half of the building already demolished. The distinctive 1888 sandstone facade, a significant part of the city's history, will remain intact during the reconstruction.

The new building complex, set to be completed by 2029, will offer an additional 21,000 square meters of rental space. This space will cater to a variety of uses, including gastronomy, retail, offices, conference rooms, medical service spaces, and 28 freehold apartments. The rooftop bar, offering a stunning view of the Binnenalster, is one of the highlights of the new complex.

The construction progress of the Hamburg Hof will be documented online, with two cameras providing daily images of the work on the project's website. A tunnel for pedestrians made of containers has been set up to allow visitors to pass the construction site. These containers serve as communal and meeting rooms for the involved companies.

The Hamburg Hof reconstruction is expected to enrich the Jungfernstieg with a modern, mixed-use quarter. By 2029, the Hamburg Hof will shine in new splendor, shaping the city centre for several years.
